Scouts Commit to a Greener, More Inclusive World

 

 

What an eventful summer it has been! These past months have all been about protecting the environment and building friendship bridges across borders, from Croatia to Finland, we gather some extraordinary stories of young and Scouts who work tirelessly to save the planet and give a positive example to their peers! Scouts were also busy during July celebrating diversity and multiculturalism at World Scout Jamboree 2019, one of the biggest youth events in the world. Read all about their actions and discover more of the highlights of this summer/fall below!

 

 

Celebrating Diversity at World Scout Jamboree 2019

 

On 26th July, over 40.000 young people from all around the world met in West Virginia, USA for the 24th World Scout Jamboree to celebrate diversity, each other's culture and enjoy the wonderful nature in one of the world's largest educational youth movements. On such occasion, one would expect to see many colourful attires, traditional costumes and various multicultural festivities celebrating unique heritage and folklore, from Japanese Kimono to Scottish kilts or Korean hanboks. Over 15.000 European Scouts had the chance to create life-long friendships with people from all around the world.

2 Million Scouts Gathered Online This Month
To Whom Did You Connect 

 

JOTA-JOTI is the world's largest digital Scout event taking place online and over the air, through radio. The educational event brings together more than 2 million Scouts every year in October for a weekend of Scouting and friendship. Young people learn about communications, technology and are able to connect with fellow Scouts from over 170 countries. Pretty impressive, right? Discover more JOTA-JOTI here. The Reforestation Project of the Croatian Scouts wins at Effie Europe!

 

A reforestation campaign resulting in the plantation of more than 25,000 trees in 8 weeks, earned the Croatian Scouts the most prestigious award for marketing communication effectiveness in Europe, the Effie Europe award. On the 16th of October they won the award for Positive Change Europe- Environmental Good, if interested more about their environmental actions click here

 

 

Finnish Scout Writes To Prime Minister about Climate Action and Receives a Surprising Answer 

 

Ever wondered how it is like corresponding with the Prime Minister of your country? Well, a young Scout from Finland wanted to share her concerns regarding climate change after her group carried out a number of environmental awareness activities, She decided to reach the highest decision-maker in Finland. Annie, wished to speak with "an influential person", regarding the solutions to combat climate change and spread awareness among her peers. Danish Scouts Come Up with New Environmental Strategy

 

Danish Scouts mobilised themselves with a new strategy regarding sustainability and environmental issues. A series of actions to combat wasteful habits and find doable solutions are implemented in a half year review plan. KFUM-Spejderne I Danmark wishes to address the important issue of sustainability within local communities and to call people to action. The Danish Scouts launched a series of eco-friendly activities with a fierce determination to engage communities and spread awareness in combating climate change.
